Died: Vailly, France - 14 September 1914
Burial details: Vailly British Cemetery, France (Grave II-2-21)
Corps service: Commissioned into the Corps in 1902. After training at Chatham he joined the Balloon Section at Aldershot then served in Gibraltar and Cairo. He was Adjutant 3 Division Royal Engineers when he deployed with the Division to France as part of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in August 1914.
VC awarded: Won VC at Mons on 23 August 1914 and Vailly on 14 September 1914. (First World War 1914-18)
VC unit: 57 Field Company.
VC presented: VC presented by King George V to Captain Wright's mother at Buckingham Palace on 16 November 1916
VC citation: Gallantry on 23 August 1914 at Mons in attempting to connect up the lead to demolish a bridge, under heavy fire; although wounded in the head, he made a second attempt. At Vailly, on 14 September, he assisted the passage of the 5th Cavalry Brigade over the pontoon bridge and was mortally wounded whilst assisting wounded men into shelter.
