Research Section - Researching Local History of the Medway Towns


The Medway Archives and Local Studies Centre (MALSC) holds burial records of Fort Pitt Military Cemetery on microfilm for the years 1869-1918. This may help when tracing the history of soldiers of the Royal Engineers at Chatham.

The local census returns can be useful if a military family lived in the Medway area. They also have microfilm of Registers from Brompton Garrison Church. These are Baptism Registers 1847 onwards; Marriage Registers 1933 onwards; Confirmation Registers 1899 - 1957, 1962 onwards; Banns Registers 1933 onwards; Service Registers 1872 -76; 1886 onwards; Darland Apprentices Training School 1939 - 1941 and other records.
