Albert
Medal - Royal Engineer Recipients - The Albert Medal
was instituted by a Royal Warrant on 7 March 1866 in memory
of Prince Albert and discontinued in 1971. Awarded to
recognize saving life at sea or on land. Fifteen Royal
Engineers and three Bengal Sappers and Miners were recipients
of the medal. There were two classes of medal; First Class
(Gold) and Second Class (Bronze), with the exception of
the First Class medal awarded to Lieutenant Henry Higgs,
Royal Engineers in 1916 all the Albert Medals awarded
to members of the Corps were Second Class (Bronze) medals.
