Transformation Project - Target £200,000
- This involves a major alteration to the internal
arrangement of the Museum including rebuilding the
WWI and WWII galleries which are not felt to do justice
to two such major periods of our history. Additionally,
we plan to reposition the Library within the Museum
building. The Library is a huge and very special collection.
Because it is at present within the barracks area
it is not easily accessible to researchers. Also its
staff, whose work considerably overlaps with those
in the Museum, suffer by being separated. We plan
to build a splendid facility with study booths as
well as much improved modern library access. This
has long been sought as perhaps the last major building
project. Read more about the Museum
and Library Collection
- The cost runs to over 2 million pounds, but it is hoped that much of this will come from a successful Lottery bid. The Corps family has however undertaken to raise a million pounds to support this application and the Foundation share is £200,000. We so far (as at Jan 2009) have raised £75,000 of this so our current campaign is aimed at raising at least the balance of £125,000.
- At any given time we also maintain a list of smaller
projects between £500 and £3000 for anyone wishing
to donate who wishes to be associated directly with
a project. Contact RE
Museum Foundation Secretary for further details.

Past Projects
Between 1987 and 2008 the RE Museum Foundation has raised
approximately £2 million and provided the finances for the
following projects: |
- The provision within the Historic Dockyard exhibit of a DVD promoting the main Museum (2008).
- The establishment and fitting out of a separate major
exhibit within the Chatham Historic Dockyard in Slipway
No 3. This has enabled the display to the public for the
first time of much large equipment previously stored (2005-2008).
