Further and Higher Education

The Corps of Royal Engineers has a unique history within the British armed forces which is reflected in the diversity of both the Museum's collection and the contents of its Library, which has been in existence since 1813. All these offer interesting and rewarding research opportunities to academics and students in Further and Higher Education.

The Museum collection allows the researcher to study such matters as

  • Mechanical design.
  • Garment design.
  • Social history.
  • The Mulberry harbours used during the D Day landings.

In the Library the researcher can study a diversity of subjects such as:

  • Military and Civil engineering
  • .
  • Military and Social history.
  • 19th century Empire building.
  • Early developments of aeronautics and photography.
  • Military use of railways, traction engines and ports.
  • Development of armoured vehicles.
  • Victorian prison, hospital and barrack design.
  • Military signal, telegraph, wireless and postal communications.
  • Development of the ordnance survey and international boundary commissions.
