Every year the museum holds three competitions:
Each year we have more entries and the standards get higher.
We also hold additional special events throughout the year so it is always worth checking the web site to see what's on!
The Bridge Building Competition 11 March 2009
The 2009 Bridge Building Competition will run during National Science Week to coincide with the National Curriculum's Key Stage Two Science
- Competition Date - 11 March 2009
- Pupils are challenged to a day of Bridge Building
activities at the Museum.
- Teams from schools race to build the strongest
bridge using only the material we provide.
- This very often involves the Royal Engineers
themselves teaching and guiding the children
with their bridge designs.
- The day also includes a visit to our model
bridge collection and activities with the Royal
Engineers such as mine clearance games and a
chance to have a go on some of the bulldozers
and cranes, when available.
- At the end of the day all bridges are tested
and the design which holds the most weight wins.
- The Museum sends out invitations for local
schools to send along a team.
- Sponsored by Mabey & Johnson and Rochester Bridge
Trust who kindly provide £500 as the first prize!
