Accreditation |
|
'The Museums, Libraries and Archive Council's (MLA) Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums. To qualify, museums must meet clear basic requirements on how they care for and document their collections, how they are governed and managed, and on the information and services they offer to their users.'

The Museum was fully 'Registered' under the Museums, Libraries and Archive
Council's previous best practice scheme. In 2005 the
Accreditation Scheme replaced Museum Registration and
the Royal Engineers Museum was one of the first museums
to be accredited.

Designation |
|
'The Designation Scheme identifies and celebrates outstanding collections of national and international importance held in England's non-National museums, libraries and archives, based on their quality and significance. These inspiring collections represent a vital part of our national cultural and artistic heritage. Designation celebrates and promotes the nation's most important and culturally valuable collections, so they can be fully enjoyed by many generations to come'.
MLA website (Nov 2005)
The Royal Engineers Museum and Library & Archive received 'Designated' status for its entire collection in 1998. It is one of only three military or regimental museums in the country to hold the coveted 'Designated' status, the others being the Tank Museum and specific collections held by the Firepower (Royal Artillery Museum).
To read more about the scheme please visit the Museums,
Libraries and Archive Council (MLA) website at www.mla.gov.uk.
